Blake

To see a world in a grain of sand, And a heaven in a wild flower, Hold infinity in the palm of your hand, And eternity in an hour. William Blake, from "Auguries of Innocence"

Coming Home from School in Madurai

Dear Daughter,

One of Papa's favorite things to do in the day is to take you to school on the bike in Antwerp as many of the parents do there. Here in Madurai, however, many of the children go by bus, Tak-Tak or on the motorcycles or scooters with their parents. Here are three little girls who were waiting for their brothers to come out of school and they all left in the Tak-Tak together. I bet you would love to ride in one of these to school!
I Love You,
Papa

Taking a Tak-Tak to Work

Dear Daughter,
Remember the funny bicycles that we saw in Santa Fe with the little bench in the back and Papa told you that they were called rickshaws in Asia? Well, in Madurai, they call them "tak-tak"s and Papa will be riding one every day to work! However, most of them are motorized here, so it is very loud with lots of honking and beeping. Papa will try to film the trip one day and send it to you so you can see what a crazy place this is. And, Papa promises to take you on a rickshaw ride the next time we are in Santa Fe, but I bet it will be much more peaceful than here.
Love, Papa
